BBC Studios brings together publishing and CP businesses

Stephen Davies has been named md of new BBC Studios consumer products and licensing division.

BBC Studios has established a new division which brings together all of the BBC commercial subsidiary’s UK publishing and licensing businesses for the first time.

Stephen Davies (pictured) has been appointed as md of the new BBC Studios consumer products and licensing division.

Currently director for live entertainment, music and motion gallery at BBC Studios, Stephen will take on his new role from Monday November 4.

The newly formed division will be responsible for BBC Studios’ DVDs and digital downloads, music products and music licensing, licensed consumer products, live entertainment, video clips service BBC Motion Gallery, BBC Studios Learning and licensed physical and digital audio and book publishing.

Collectively, the businesses are responsible for the commercial exploitation of some of the BBC’s biggest brands including Hey Duggee, Top Gear, Doctor Who and Strictly Come Dancing.

The reorganisation follows the announced departure of Andrew Moultrie – currently director, consumer products and publishing – who is leaving BBC Studios to take up a new role as ceo of BBC Studioworks, the commercial live and post production business owned by the BBC.

“Bringing the expertise in our consumer product and licensing teams together will mean that we can innovate, collaborate and share best practice across the business lines more easily and continue to delight and surprise audiences and make sustainable returns to the BBC,” offered Stephen.

Marcus Arthur, president of BBC Studios UK and ceo UKTV, added: “These businesses bring pleasure to millions of fans every year by extending their enjoyment of the BBC content and brands they love and I’m delighted Stephen has accepted this new role to ensure their continued success.

“Andrew has done a fantastic job managing our consumer product and publishing businesses and we wish him all the best in his new role.”
