Airfix ready to rock with Motörhead

Latest Heinkel 1:72 scale model will mark 40th anniversary of band’s iconic Bomber album.

Global Merchandising Services is teaming up with Airfix as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations for Motörhead’s iconic album, Bomber.

The company will offer a version of its latest Heinkel 1:72 scale model with the ‘Bomber’ markings included, as well as the anniversary box lid.

The striking album artwork for Bomber – which was released on October 27, 1979 – was created by illustrator Adrian Chesterman and features the band members manning the cockpit of the craft.

The album sleeve made such an impression that the band insisted on a remarkable 40ft Heinkel replica to accompany them on stage for their now notorious Bomber tour. The stage piece continued to be used throughout the band’s career and was an iconic piece of set which fans would see during their live shows.

Included in the box are three original markings for the A07007, giving the customer various customisation options.

Next year will mark another major anniversary in the band’s history. Their fourth album, Ace of Spades which spawned the famous single of the same name will also be turning 40. The Airfix partnership is one of a string of announcements set to be released as Global celebrates the iconic British band’s forthcoming anniversaries.

Earlier this year, BMG, the band’s record label, revealed it would mark the anniversaries of the two albums with a deluxe collector’s box set called 1979, plus 40th anniversary individual deluxe reissues of Overkill and Bomber.

Global will be showcasing the special edition plane at Brand Licensing Europe next month, along with other new product releases from partners around the world.
