The Walt Disney Company signs Pinewood Studio lease

Company secures long-term lease for entire Pinewood Studios site.

The Walt Disney Company has signed a long-term lease for the entire Pinewood Studios site in the UK.

The company is taking all the stages, backlots and other production accommodation at Pinewood, reported Screen Daily.

Disney has shot five Star Wars movies in the UK since buying Lucasfilm, as well as multiple Marvel movies. In addition, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins Returns all shot at sister site, Shepperton Studios.

“It’s wonderful to have Disney here at Pinewood,” commented Paul Golding, chairman of Pinewood Group. “They’ve been making great films with us for many years and the fact they want to shoot so many more here is testimony not only to the quality of the teams and infrastructure at Pinewood, but also to the British film industry as a whole.”

Back in July, Netflix confirmed it would be opening a new UK production hub at Shepperton Studios, renting the 14 sound stages, as well as workshops and office space from October.
