Disney on track for $10bn+ year at the box office

Studio has established a $7.67bn all-time industry global record after seven months.

With Frozen 2 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker still to come, Walt Disney Studios is on track for a $10 billion+ year at the box office.

After strong contributions from Aladdin, Toy Story 4 and The Lion King already in 2019, the studio has now beaten its own previous best industry mark of $7.61 billion worldwide in a calendar year (set back in 2016) to stand at $7.67 billion.

In addition, Screen Daily has also reported that the studio has become the first to cross $5 billion internationally in a calendar year, notching up $5.09 billion.

Another stellar weekend for The Lion King saw it reach $968.6 million globally, while Aladdin passed the $1 billion milestone, now standing at $1.0097 billion worldwide.

Meanwhile, Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 4 has grossed an estimated $918.5 million globally, according to Screen Daily.

The eagerly awaited Frozen 2 arrives in the UK on November 22, followed by Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 19.
