Van Gogh Museum reveals The Skateroom collab

Famous artworks feature on skateboard range with percentage of profits donated to Skateistan.

Van Gogh Museum has teamed up with The Skateroom – a Brussels-based social enterprise company – in a deal which sees some of the artist’s famous works transformed onto skateboards.

The collection includes Almond Blossoms, Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat, Sunflowers and Skull of a Skeleton with Burning Cigarette, all featuring on a range of decorative boards.

Through The Skateroom’s ‘5:25’ business model, 5% of the turnover or 25% of the profit from every sale – which amount is greater – will support Skateistan, an international development organisation with the mission of empowering children and youth through skateboarding and education.

Skateistan’s goal is to empower children, to equip them with valuable life skills that go beyond the skatepark and classroom, and to give them the opportunity to become leaders for a better world.

The earmarked proceeds from The Skateroom x Van Gogh Museum collection will be dedicated to Skateistan’s special pilot programme for adaptive skateboarders, aimed at mobilising children with and without intellectual disabilities.

“The Skateroom unites artists, art buyers, museums, brands and non-profits around the world in a new economic model – Art for Social Impact,” explains founder and ceo, Charles-Antoine Bodson, on the company’s website.

The company said that it honoured “the spirit of Van Gogh’s perseverance and his brother Theo’s endless support and pay it forward through this collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum”.

The boards range in price from €220 up to €550.

Licensing Link Europe handles the licensing programme for Van Gogh Museum in the UK.
