The B&LLAs 2019: The Product winners

We take a closer look at the nine big winners in the Product category.

The winners of the nine product categories at the Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards covered a variety of big names – from TfL through to Blisshome.

The first award of the afternoon was Best Brand Licensed Fashion Accessories or Lifestyle Product or Range (sponsored by The Point.1888), with TfL x adidas trainers collection ‘walking’ away victorious.

Stephanie Freeman, global head of licensing at TSBA Group – who collected the award with TfL’s David Burns (head of brand licensing and brand protection) on behalf of adidas – said: “This is fantastic; we’re really proud of the work that has been done with adidas.”

Best Brand Licensed Health & Beauty Product or Range (sponsored by MDR Brand Management) was won by the Crayola Beauty Cosmetic Collection from ASOS and Crea Cosmetics.

Mary Lawrence, md of Crea Cosmetics, commented: “A lot of hard work was involved so it’s fantastic to win. We’re absolutely delighted.”

Katrina Fulluck, senior beauty buyer at ASOS, added: “We were really pleased to be involved with such a groundbreaking initiative.”

Moving on, and Best Brand Licensed Adult Apparel Product or Range (sponsored by National Geographic) was won by Coco de Mer’s V&A collection. The award was collected by Lauren Sizeland, director business development and licensing at the V&A.

“We are thrilled to have received a B&LLA award for our V&A by Coco de Mer lingerie collection,” Lucy Litwack, ceo of Coco de Mer, told Source. “It was an honour to collaborate with V&A Museum and have the opportunity to be inspired by their vast archives.

“As two British heritage brands with a passion for beauty, we felt that we could develop a lingerie collection that would embody key elements from both of our brands – luxury, opulence and glamour. This award, in recognition of the beautiful collection we produced, is much appreciated and very exciting to have received.”

Lucy continued: “I look forward to continuing to collaborate with new partners in the worlds of art, design and fashion, and to telling great stories and creating breathtaking experiences.”

Best Brand Licensed Gifting Product or Range (sponsored by JELC) was awarded to Portico Designs for its Joules Stationery and Gifting collection – which was collected by the Joules team.

Charlie Czul, sales director at Portico Designs, told Source: “We are thrilled that our Joules collection received the B&LLA for Best Brand Licensed Gifting Range. Joules is a thriving brand that continues to go from strength to strength and we are excited about our future collaborations.”

Finsbury Food Group’s Baileys Freakshake Cake picked up the Best Brand Licensed Food or Beverage Product or Range (sponsored by Style Library), with brand manager Jack Cook-Broussine commenting: “We’re delighted. It is a great licence to be working with.”

Blisshome’s Nadiya Hussain Make Life Colourful range was victorious in Best Brand Licensing Homeswares Product or Range (sponsored by Vintage Kellogg’s).

Mike Bliss – who collected the award with co-owner Gabrielle Bliss – said: “We really enjoyed working with Nadiya on the collection; it was a huge pleasure. This is the icing on the cake.”

Best Brand Licensed Children’s Product or Range (sponsored by Start Licensing) was hotly contested, with the NHM Children’s Apparel Collection from FatFace emerging as the winner.

Gabrielle Sims, head of licensing at FatFace – who collected the award with assistant buyer Jessica Foster and Natural History Museum’s head of licensing, Maxine Lister (pictured above) – commented: “We are so thrilled to have won. FatFace is so new to the world of licensing and it’s fantastic to be recognised and finalists for three awards in such a short space of time. Winning was the icing on the cake, such an achievement when the competition was so strong.

“All the hard work and commitment the team put in to making this collaboration the success it was has paid off. It’s always great to be recognised and rewarded. Two fabulous brands that clearly work so well together.”

Meanwhile, Best Brand Licensed Consumer Hard Goods Product or Range (sponsored by Golden Goose) was collected by Matthew Primack, vp of licensing at IMG, on behalf of MPL Home, which won for its Cosmo Beauty Electricals.

Matthew said: “I’d like to thank everyone at IMG and Hearst – they have done an amazing job.”

Finally in this category, Inspired Innovation Brand Licensed Product or Range (sponsored by Discovery Consumer Products) was won by Country Living Hotels from Coast & Coast.

Susy Smith, group editorial director of Country Living, commented: “We are thrilled to bits. We knew it was a great initiative but you never know until your name is called.”
