Easter footfall to increase says Springboard

Retail footfall will bounce back from 2018 drop as growing importance of holiday highlighted.

Springboard is predicting that retail footfall over Easter will bounce back from the drop seen in 2018.

Fashion United reported that Springboard expects footfall to be 2.1% higher in comparison to 2018, which saw it drop by 3.3%.

The high street will enjoy the greatest rise – up 4.1% in comparison to a decline of 7.1% from Easter 2017. Retail parks are predicted to rise by 1.7%, although shopping centres are forecast to dip 1.9%.

Easter 2019 falls three weeks later than in 2018 and in the middle of the month, which gives consumers more ‘spending leeway’, said the report.

Last year also saw the Beast from the East hit retail footfall – high streets saw footfall decline 7.5% over the weekend as a whole.
