Shopkins and Frozen triumph at Toy Industry Awards

Star Wars and Paw Patrol lines also take home accolades at annual ceremony.

Disney’s Frozen continues to captivate the toy aisles – with the brand picking up the Toy Licence of the Year accolade at last night’s Toy Industry Awards.

In addition, the Shopkins brand had its importance to the sector underlined, with Flair being awarded Collectable Range of the Year. Bulldog Licensing handles the consumer products programme for the fast growing property.

Other licensed toys being awarded at the event – which was held at London’s Olympia following the first day of Toy Fair – included Paw Patrol. Spin Master’s Paw Patroller picked up the Preschool Toy of the Year.

LEGO Star Wars, meanwhile, perhaps unsurprisingly won the Construction Range of the Year. LEGO was also awarded Supplier of the Year.

Doll of the Year went to Jakks Pacific and its hit Disney Frozen Sing-Along-Elsa.

On the retail side, Smyths won Overall Toy Retailer of the Year, Shop Direct was Online Toy Retailer of the Year and Argos was General Multiple Toy Retailer of the Year.

Phil Ratcliffe, chairman of the BTHA, said: “On behalf of the BTHA, I would like to congratulate all the winners of this year’s Toy Retailer Awards. It was pleasing to see an increase in entries this year.

“The judges deliberated long and hard to find this year’s winners because of the very high standard of entries received. Congratulations must also go to our worthy runners-up who, it should still be remembered, were the best in their categories, and our sincere thanks to everyone for their participation.”
