The timing in Europe is right for ‘master of horror’ says agency’s Max Arguile.
Reemsborko – the agency headed up by Max Arguile – has become the European agent for The Junji Itô Collection.
Junji Itô is celebrating his 30th year as a manga artist and author in 2018. He is revered by generations of fans worldwide as a ‘true master’ of horror.
Some of his notable works include Tomie – a series chronicling an immortal girl who drives her stricken admirers to madness – and Uzumaki, a three-volume series about a town obsessed with spirals.
The Junji Itô Collection – which is a horror anthology – is available to stream on Crunchyroll – the world’s largest anime streaming platform – and VRV.
The licensing and merchandising programme has already launched in the US, with great success in Hot Topic (pictured) and Urban Outfitters.
“I’m highly delighted to be working on this great property,” said Max, who established Reemsborko earlier this year and was appointed as European agent by Crunchyroll. “Horror in general is established as a licensable genre in the US and is rapidly doing the same in Europe.
“Anime is also growing hugely and is starting to cross into the mainstream. This lifestyle brand is anime for adults – horror with a touch of humour. The timing in Europe is right for Junji Itô.”
