“You can’t ignore the trend for Japanese-influenced brands”

Tesco’s Pippa Woods talks trends, top sellers and the classics.

The trend for Japanese-influenced brands is one that can’t be ignored, according to Tesco’s brand licensing manager, Pippa Woods.

Speaking to Licensing Source Book as part of the judging of the product categories for this year’s Licensing Awards, Pippa (pictured above with PAW Patrol’s Chase and Skye at the Progressive Preschool Awards) also highlighted a range of brands which had been performing well for the retailer.

“PJ Masks is selling well for us, helped by the fact that there is lots of content to draw on as well as the innovations in the toy products,” Pippa commented. “Harry Potter is a strong property, doing well for us on stationery.

“On the newer front, LEGO Unikitty is going well and will likely grow while the trend for more Japanese-influenced design brands, such as Pusheen, Molang and Hamsta World cannot be ignored.”

Pippa also noted that classic brands continued to perform well.

“[This] bodes well for the new live action Disney Dumbo film that is out next spring,” she added.
