Amazon charity goods donations top £2m in six years

Over 1,300 UK charities benefitting from retailer’s donation of more than £750,000 worth of goods to In Kind Direct.

Amazon’s charity goods donations over the past six years have now topped £2 million.

The company remains In Kind Direct’s largest retail product donor, with more than 1,300 UK charities benefitting from Amazon’s donation of over £750,000 worth of goods in 2015.

Amazon has been working with In Kind Direct – one of The Prince’s Charities – since 2009 to redistribute products to grassroots charities across the UK.

Last year, charities supporting causes ranging from disadvantaged youths to homelessness and the current refugee crisis have benefitted from a wide range of products donated.

These include toys, games, sports and household equipment, toiletries and clothing.

Among the charities to have received goods include Phoenix Community Resource Hub, a centre based in Kent helping young people at risk; CCLASP, which supports cancer and leukaemia patients and their families in Edinburgh; and the Caxton House Community Centre in Archway, Islington.

As well as donating surplus products, Amazon has provided a range of support to In Kind Direct including advice and mentoring, logistics support and cloud services from Amazon Web Services.

Ajay Kavan, vice president of special projects at Amazon, and also a trustee for In Kind Direct, said: “Our partnership with In Kind Direct enables Amazon to support charities providing help to people in need up and down the country.”
