“More space should be given to preschool apparel”

Cooneen’s Mike Coles on how the category has an exciting few years ahead.

The licensed preschool apparel sector is certainly a buoyant one – with properties including Peppa Pig, Thomas, PAW Patrol and Winnie the Pooh leading way.

And, with the likes of Hey Duggee, PJ Masks, Nella the Princess Knight and Super Wings among others beginning to make their mark, it’s more crowded than ever.

Sister title Progressive Preschool chatted to some of the key licensees in the space to find out how 2017 was and how 2018 is shaping up.

Today: Mike Coles, director, Cooneen

“2017 was another good year for preschool for Cooneen. 2018 is a similar level to 2017 – sales on all of our products have been excellent to the end of 2017, so this has helped give Cooneen an excellent start to 2018.

The usual stable of Peppa Pig, Thomas and Disney all dominate this sector, while we also have high hopes for Nella the Princess Knight, Rusty Rivets and Moon and Me.

Preschool is crowded, so ensuring we have the top licences is crucial. We are confident we have the lion’s share for 2018. I believe the sector is very buoyant and quite exciting for the next few years. More space should be given to this growing area.”
