“Preschool apparel is a booming market”

Fashion UK’s Ashley Hammond on why the health of the preschool apparel space could not be better.

The licensed preschool apparel sector is certainly a buoyant one – with properties including Peppa Pig, Thomas, PAW Patrol and Winnie the Pooh leading way.

And, with the likes of Hey Duggee, PJ Masks, Nella the Princess Knight and Super Wings among others beginning to make their mark, it’s more crowded than ever.

Sister title Progressive Preschool chatted to some of the key licensees in the space to find out how 2017 was and how 2018 is shaping up.

Today: Ashley Hammond, head of sales, Fashion UK

“Fashion UK is in a state of rapid expansion in this area; 2017 has been an exceptionally good year for us. We have seen strong sales coming from our preschool licence portfolio and are actively looking to keep it up.

2018 has begun with continued strong growth across our evergreen preschool properties, such as Disney. Our top performing licences currently consist of the classics – Mr Men, Warner Bros and Disney. However, there are always new and exciting brands popping up in this sector that may bring new and exciting opportunities.

The health of the preschool apparel sector could not be better. It is a booming market that can perform exceptionally well if you have the right licence or product.  It could be improved even further by expanding what is on offer at the moment, so we are keeping an eye out for something that can diversify the market and offer the consumer more choice.

By the end of 2018, we would like to strengthen our preschool licensed portfolio even further in the UK and to have made our first robust steps into Europe with preschool apparel.”
