UK games publisher Curve Digital secures deal to develop console game based on series.
Hit TV series Narcos is making the move into the video games space, with UK games publisher Curve Digital signing up to develop a console game.
The deal – which will see a Narcos video game heading to PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation4 and Xbox One in spring 2019 – was brokered by Evolution USA, the global licensing agency for brand owner Gaumont, assisted by Simon Kay at AT New Media.
The game will be developed by Curve Digital’s sister company, Kuju.
Narcos chronicles the true-life rise to power of drug lords and the explosion of cocaine trafficking in the world. Available on Netflix, season three premiered as the most in-demand digital original in the US and one of the top five worldwide, according to Parrot Analytics.
“Narcos is a fantastic licence for us to work with,” said Jason Perkins, md of Curve Digital. “This critically acclaimed show from Gaumont lends itself perfectly to a video game execution and we’re excited and proud to be bringing this to market.”
Tim Stephen, head of legal and business affairs at Gaumont, added: “Curve Digital is a world leading video game publisher and we trust them to develop and create our first Narcos console game title that will thrill our millions of Narcos fans, allowing them to engage with the storylines and characters they have come to know over the past three seasons.”
