Rihanna builds her brand with new beauty line

Fenty Beauty cosmetics line launches at Harvey Nichols as singer continues to branch out.

Pop star Rihanna is further expanding her brand name, with the launch of a new cosmetics line exclusively at Harvey Nichols in the UK.

Fenty Beauty consists of 91 pieces mostly focusing on skin make up – this includes 40 shades of foundation from pale to dark.

The launch of the cosmetics line follows on from Rihanna’s collaboration with Puma on her Fenty x Puma clothing range.

She joins fellow pop stars and other celebrities who have been building their brands with the introduction of collaborations and partnerships.

The Times reported on Saturday (September 9) that Britney Spears first fragrance, Curious, earned $100 million in sales in five weeks and has grossed $1.5 billion in worldwide sales.

One Direction’s One Moment perfume was the fastest selling scent at The Perfume Shop in 2013, apparently selling one bottle per minute. The turnover for the first week was £3.6 million.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé’s fragrance Heat debuted in 2010, with Macy’s in New York shifting $3 million worth in its first month of release. The Times said that it has since earned $400 million globally.

Kylie Jenner’s cosmetics brand has notched up $420 million in retail sales in just 18 months, while Victoria Beckham’s fashion line made $95 million in its first year.
