Fans flock to Force Friday II openings

Retailers across the globe hold special events to mark launch of The Last Jedi product.

The launch of the new products for the eagerly awaited Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been marked across the globe, with various retailers holding special events to celebrate Force Friday II.

Disney Store on London’s Oxford Street opened its doors at midnight, with fans queuing to be the first to get their hands on the new lines.

Licensees including Hasbro, LEGO, Funko, Posh Paws, Wow Stuff and Sphero among others unveiled new offerings.

Highlights included a LEGO BB-8, a BB-9E app-enabled droid from Sphero, a Path of the Force Lightsaber from Hasbro (which lights up in red or blue) and The Last Jedi Chewbacca from Funko.

Meanwhile, Posh Paws unveiled a range of bag clips, 8”, 10” and 18” soft toys, which will be available from November and featuring a host of Star Wars characters, both old and new, from the upcoming movie. Brought to life in plush toy form are the new Praetorian Guard, stormtrooper executioner, Porgs and BB-9E from the First Order.

Wow Stuff revealed a new miniature droid, based on a Jedi training device. The Jedi Training Remote is based on the device seen in three of the Star Wars films and features two modes of training.

Stores in Australia were the first to officially reveal the new product lines, and were treated to the first glimpse of the new BB-9E droid, which features heavily in the range.

Back in the UK, retailers including Toys R Us, Smyths, Hamleys, LEGO, HMV, Forbidden Planet, The Entertainer, Argos (online), GameStop, Arnotts and Easons all took part in special events.

As reported on The Source yesterday, John Lewis opened a replica Cantina bar in its Oxford Street flagship store with Stormtroopers also bought in to control the crowds. It was the first time that the retailer had joined in with a Force Friday event.
