Richard Haines takes on new role at Penguin

Popular exec promoted to head of acquisitions and TV development at PRH Children’s.

Penguin Random House Children’s has promoted Richard Haines to the newly created role of head of acquisitions and TV development.

In his new role, Richard will lead PRH Children’s TV development strategy, seeking out new TV and production company partners. He will also work alongside the PRH Children’s picture book team to turn some of their new picture book heroes into animation.

In addition, Richard will continue to acquire new licenses for publishing and will report into managing director, Francesca Dow.

In his previous role at PRH Children’s, Richard acquired publishing licenses for The Clangers, Dangermouse and Terraria. He will begin in his new role immediately.

Emily Campan has also been promoted and will be working alongside Richard as licensed publishing and TV development executive.

Francesca Dow, managing director for PRH Children’s, said: “At PRH Children’s we are committed to finding new and creative ways of telling our stories. As well as being a publisher, we are also a strong creative and investment partner.

“This is a well-deserved promotion for Richard, who has been leading the creative on our newest animation Puffin Rock, which launched on RTE & Nick Jr. in the UK, ABC in Australia and has recently launched internationally on Netflix to fantastic reviews.”

Richard added: “I’m delighted to take on this new role at such an exciting time for children’s content. Following the successful launch of Puffin Rock, and with several new projects in the pipeline, I look forward to continuing my work with our authors, illustrators, producers and broadcasters to take stories beyond the book. I’d also like to congratulate Emily on her very well deserved promotion.”
