The Clangers and Paddington win at Children’s BAFTAs

Minions and The Next Step also among licensed winners at glittering event.

A number of licensed properties are celebrating success at the BAFTA Children’s Awards after last night’s star-studded ceremony.

The annual event was held at The Roundhouse, London and hosted by Doc Brown. Celebrities including Denise van Outen, Keith Chegwin, Floella Benjamin, Kimberley Wyatt, Michael Palin, Harry Hill and David Baddiel all graced the red carpet.

Minions picked up the BAFTA Kids’ Vote in the Film category, having faced stiff competition from Big Hero 6, Shaun the Sheep Movie and The SpongeBob Movie among others.

The Amazing World of Gumball triumphed in the Animation category, while Minecraft picked up the BAFTA Kids’ Vote for Games.

The Clangers was named Preschool Animation – the category also included Peppa Pig, Hey Duggee and Lily’s Driftwood Bay.

Two properties represented by Brands with Influence scooped awards – The Next Step won the BAFTA Kids’ Vote for TV, while Swashbuckle picked up Children’s Entertainment.

Dom Wheeler and Martin Lowde from BWI told The Source: “We are thrilled to see these two incredibly popular children’s programmes pick up their deserved prestigious BAFTA accolades for their respective categories.

“The Next Step, now in its third series, continues to build a strong loyal following of fans who will be further rewarded with two new series for 2016 along with a Live Tour in the spring. Furthermore, licensed merchandise will start to hit the shelves from April 2016.

“For Swashbuckle, this pirate-themed live action game show for pre schoolers will be returning with a brand new series in 2016. Off air, the success is complemented with a continuing successful stand alone magazine from Immediate Media and the games and apps remain very popular.

“We will be announcing several new partnerships for both these programmes very soon.”

Meanwhile, the Feature Film category went to Paddington, which had been up against Big Hero 6, Inside Out and Shaun the Sheep Movie.

Channel of the Year was awarded to CBBC.
