Sotheby’s dates first ever Star Wars collectables auction

More than 600 action figures to be sold on behalf of Japanese fashion designer, Nigo.

Sotheby’s is to hold the first ever auction of Star Wars collectables on December 11.

It has joined forces with Japanese fashion designer Tomoaki Nagao, better known as Nigo, for the auction. It will see more than 600 original action figures on offer, alongside objects ranging from replica Darth Vader helmets to autographed lightsabers, vintage film posters and even a Jabba the Hutt cookie jar.

Price estimates range from $100 up to $35,000.

“As a designer, I have always been inspired by Star Wars,” said Nigo. “I am honoured to be launching this sale and hope that it will bring excitement to Star Wars fans around the world.”

Star Wars fans will have the opportunity to bid on some of the film’s rarest and most sought-after collectables.

This includes toys produced only in the most-limited of numbers, such as a Luke Skywalker figurine with double telescoping lightsaber (estimate $12,000-$18,000).

Also on offer are a set of Revenge of the Jedi backing cards (estimate $3,000-$5,000) where were produced before George Lucas decided that ‘revenge’ was unsuitable for the film’s title as a true Jedi would never seek revenge.

Further highlights include two complete sets of collectable Power of the Force coins, which were only available on special request from the manufacturer Kenner (estimate $25,000-$35,000) and the earliest item of Star Wars merchandise that Lucas Studios ever licensed – the Early Bird Certificate Display Package ($7,000-$9,000).

Highlights from the collection will also be on show from December 4-11 as part of a private exhibition at The Condé Nast Gallery, an exclusive gallery space that is part of Condé Nast Venues at One World Trade Centre in New York City.
