Rovio adds Angry Birds Blues to its roster

New weekly series will air on ToonsTV service, further boosting the franchise.

Rovio Entertainment is to launch the latest instalment in its Angry Birds franchise next month.

Angry Birds Blues will be a 30-episode short-form animated series, airing each week on the ToonsTV service.

The show will debut on March 10, reports Variety, and was teased during the end credits of The Angry Birds Movie, which was released in May 2016 and has enjoyed considerable success.

Angry Birds Blues will follow the antics of the boisterous bluebird triplets – the Blues – along with the Hatchlings, which became breakout stars of the film.

The new series joins other Rovio originals based on the Angry Birds franchise – Angry Bird Toons, Stella and Piggy Tales.

ToonsTV, which launched in 2013, hosts 600 videos across 30 channels. More than half the content is licensed from partners including National Geographic and Aardman. Its line-up of advertisers has also recently been boosted with LEGO, Kellogg’s and Universal Home Entertainment joining the likes of Crayola, Disney, Fox, Hasbro, Mattel, McDonald’s, Spin Master and Paramount Pictures.
