Fantastic Beasts biggest hit of 2016 for Warner Bros

Harry Potter spin-off soars past Batman v Superman at the UK box office.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has cast its spell over the UK box office for the third week running, notching up $48 million so far and becoming the biggest hit of 2016 for Warner Bros. in the UK.

The Harry Potter spin-off recorded $5.64 million in its third weekend, according to Screen Daily.

Its running total now puts it ahead of Batman v Superman’s $46.5 million.

It is also now the fifth biggest release of 2016 to date.

Fantastic Beasts is backed by a comprehensive licensing programme covering publishing (including top selling colouring titles), stationery and apparel, as well as high-end collector items among others.

Meanwhile, Disney’s latest animation – Moana – opened with $2.8 million.
