The Tale of Kitty in Boots honoured by Waterstones

Rediscovered Beatrix Potter story among nominations for Book of the Year.

In what is perhaps a fitting tribute in the 150th anniversary year, the new Beatrix Potter story – The Tale of Kitty in Boots – has been named in the shortlist for the Waterstones Book of the Year.

The title – which was rediscovered two years ago by a publisher at Penguin Random House in an out of print literary history about the author – has been named alongside Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts 1 & 2.

The Tale of Kitty in Boots – which was officially published in hardback on September 1, 150 years after Beatrix Potter’s birth and just over a centenary after she penned the tale – is described by Waterstones as ‘vintage Potter’.

The winner of Book of the Year will be announced on Thursday, December 1.

Other nominated titles include The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry; When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi; Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts by Christopher De Hamel; and The Optician of Lampedusa by Emma Jane Kirby.
