‘Christmas Yetis’ TV ad to debut tonight as retailer kicks off festive shopping period.
A fleet of BB-8s can be seen chasing eight foot tall yetis in this year’s Christmas TV campaign from Argos.
The retailer will debut the ad tonight (Friday November 4), having sent its Christmas yetis out onto the streets of London to kick start the festive feeling.
The ad shows the super fast yetis collecting, playing with and delivering some of Argos’ top products – including the popular remote control BB-8 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
It also highlights the retailer’s Same Day Fast Track Delivery and Fast Track Collection services.
A team of special effects experts from Animated Extras built the yetis (each costing £30,000) over a three-month period at Shepperton Studios in Surrey.
The team included pros who have previously worked on Hollywood films and British TV shows, including James Bond, Avengers, Cinderella, Jupiter Ascending, Into the Woods and Cloud Atlas. Pro skaters were used to animate the yetis in the advert, including Peter Hallam, the twice British Figure Skating Champion and holder of five international Gold medals at the Senior British Figure Skating Championships.
Stephen Vowles, marketing director at Argos, said: “Our yeti advert is designed to capture the spirit of excitement and anticipation surrounding Christmas.
“Fun loving and friendly, these larger-than-life, quick as a flash yetis colourfully bring to life the role that Argos hopes to play in the Christmases of families nationwide – and the skill, speed and precision that make us market leaders, with our super-speedy, same day Fast Track Delivery and Fast Track Collection services.

In addition, Argos is running its 3 for 2 toy deal one last time before Christmas, taking place for five days from today until Tuesday November 8, including a number of big name licensed brands such as Trolls and PAW Patrol.
The retailer has also launched the My Christmas Wishlist app, which is aimed at three to seven year olds. It allows them to choose their most wanted gifts using iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, with guidance from five animated helpers.
