Black Friday and Cyber Monday could notch up sales of £5 billion between them, according to a new report from digital commerce agency Salmon. The period between November 24-28 will see online sales reach £5 billion, with £2.55 billion coming from purchases made via mobile devices, said Salmon. In 2015, Black Friday passed £1 billion in online sales for the first time.
Tesco has seen its UK like for likes grow 0.6% in the 26 weeks to August 27. Sales volumes in the UK were up 2.1% and transactions grew 1.6%. Group like for likes increased 1%, with overall sales rising 3.3% to £24.4 billion in the half year period.
Aldi has unveiled a new autumn/winter clothing collection covering men’s and women’s casualwear. The 32-piece range includes the likes of jackets, thermal socks, long sleeved tops and handbags, and is thought to be a bid by Aldi to tap into the grocer’s fashion market sector.
Matalan has opened the doors of its first standalone home store as it looks to expand its furniture offer. The store is located in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.
John Lewis saw its sales rise 9.6% to £87.96 million for the week to October 1. Sales in the fashion sector grew 8.6%, helped along by the cooler weather, while electrical, home and technology was bolstered by new product launches, with sales up 15.1%.
Cath Kidston has been sold to private equity company Baring Asia. The company has been a shareholder since 2014 and the news means that expansion across Asia is now at the top of the agenda.
Pretty Green, the menswear retailer owned by former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, has seen its full year sales and profits increase. Group revenues were up 31% to £19.8 million in the year to September 30, 2015, while retail sales grew 24%. Positive trading has also been reported for 2016. The retailer launched a Jimi Hendrix-inspired collection earlier this year.
Amazon is to open a new fulfilment centre in Daventry in 2017 to help it meet demand for its growing Marketplace division. The warehouse will expand the 150 million strong product range and support 40% growth last year in the number of businesses selling through the arm.
Fashion etailer Missguided has launched a new beauty range online and in Boots stores. The capsule collection is to help the brand compete with the likes of Topshop.
