Card Factory enjoys revenue and profit growth

Retailer was a finalist in the Radar category at this year’s Licensing Awards.

Card Factory – which has significantly increased its presence in the licensing space over the past 12-18 months – has posted revenue and profit growth in its half yearly results.

The retailer saw revenues increase 4.8% to £169.2 million for the six months to July 31, 2016.

Operating profit rose 4.1% to £29.0 million, while profit before tax was up 7.3% to £27.6 million.

The company said that, while softer footfall resulted in lower than normal sales growth from stores, the new Card Factory website was seeing strong growth.

34 new stores opened in the period, bringing the total estate to 848, while a further six stores have opened since the period end including at the Trafford Centre in Manchester.

“We remain the clear leaders in our market, with a strong value proposition, a unique vertically integrated operating model, significant scale advantages, and industry-leading margins,” said Karen Hubbard, ceo of Card Factory.

“The potential for further growth – through like-for-like sales growth, further store roll-out and the full exploitation of our online channels – is exciting.”

Card Factory was nominated for The Radar Award at this year’s Licensing Awards – the category is for any UK-based retailer who has ‘come on the radar’ by upping their licensing activity in the last year.

In addition, the company’s Briony Clarke scooped £500 in John Lewis vouchers by winning Hasbro’s My Little Pony competition on the night.
