Stylophone makes move into licensing

Art + Science International to launch programme for original pocket synthesizer.

Art + Science International is launching a licensing programme for Stylophone, the original pocket synthesizer.

A new style guide is in development, with licensing opportunities across a number of categories now available.

Art + Science will be looking to talk to potential partners at next month’s Brand Licensing Europe, where it will be on stand A85.

Invented in 1968 by Brian Jarvis, co-founder of Dubreg Studios, the Stylophone has become one of the best selling single musical instruments of all time.

It has sold over four million units to date.

The basic premise of the Stylophone design was simple; to create a keyboard instrument that was cheap to manufacture (by eliminating the need for physical keys and replacing them with the plated circuit board touch-pads it is now so famous for) and which was easy for anyone to pick up and learn.

Famously used by David Bowie in Space Oddity, it remains a popular instrument among many leading musicians.
