LIMA UK Rising Stars: Sole Puerto

We find out more about the final nominee, Bulldog’s creative services manager.

Sole Puerto,

Creative Services Manager, Bulldog Licensing

My route into the licensing industry went something like this…

I drew a Minnie Mouse for a birthday girl and a couple of months later that doodle got me an interview. Little did I know that girl’s dad was Rob Corney, our md. I studied Genetics at university but my passion at school was art, so I jumped at the opportunity of working in a creative role.

How long in the industry?

Just under 3 years.

When I was growing up, I had no idea that ‘licensing’ was an industry, so I wanted to be…

A biologist. I am a big animal and nature lover so I wanted to travel the world and save endangered species.

Biggest inspiration in the licensing industry?

Without a doubt, Rob, our managing director. He has many traits that make him an inspiration, not only as a successful company starter but as an individual too.

Best thing about your current role?

The best thing about my role is seeing products come to life from initial boards to finished product on shelf. Being part of the PD chain along with licensors and licensees has enabled me to meet fantastic people in the industry and it makes everyday different.

What are you most proud of within your licensing career to date?

Working on Shopkins from the very beginning, as a promising brand, to the phenomenon it is today.

Licensed character you can most identify with (and why)?

I suppose Minnie Mouse, she has proven to be my lucky charm! She is dependable, loyal and tends to see the good in others, although she is not as sarcastic as me.

What were your first thoughts when you were revealed as a nominee for the LIMA UK Rising Star Award?

‘I should probably change my name, it’s not an easy one to pronounce…’. After the shock wore off, I was just very grateful and felt genuinely happy.

The adage goes, once you enter the licensing industry, you never really leave… what are your short-term goals for your career in licensing?

Keep working to expand my role and learn as much as I can from my colleagues; they have taught me so much.

The LIMA UK Rising Stars award will be presented as part of the Licensing Awards, which take place on Tuesday September 13 at The Grosvenor Hotel, London.
