Authentic puppet from 1960’s TV series expected to reach £20,000 at auction.
A Lady Penelope puppet which was used in the classic Thunderbirds TV series in the 1960’s is expected to reach £20,000 when it goes to auction later this month.
The puppet was discovered at the bottom of a wardrobe, wrapped in a blanket, after the owner had passed away. It is thought the collector kept it hidden away for the last 30 years.
Lady Penelope will be auctioned on August 20 by Trevanion and Dean in Whitchurch.
Partner and auctioneer, Christina Trevanion, said that there had been a lot of interest in Lady Penelope, both nationally and internationally, and it was very likely the puppet would end up the subject of a bidding war.
“We do see a lot of impressive memorabilia, but Lady Penelope is definitely unique. I think it’s fantastic,” she said.
“The figure was the jewel of the previous owner’s collection, but he did not keep her on display. She has very rarely seen the light of day.
“It’s been such a fantastic process to be involved in and fascinating to talk to all the fans.
“With Thunderbirds still relevant and running across the 21st century from the original series through to now, I think it just brings generations together.
“It’s such a lovely thing to find, to have an icon which resonates across decades is really special.”
