Amazon reveals trends for first half of 2016

Minions goggles, Batman v Superman, Star Wars all listed in etailer’s latest trends report.

Amazon has revealed its top trends of 2016 so far, with several licences and brands making the cut.

The etailer’s Summer 2016 Trends report is its bi-annual look at the shopping and entertainment trends across the UK, based on what people are buying, reading, watching and listening to on Amazon.co.uk and its mobile apps.

From a licence point of view, Star Wars has proved to be one of the site’s most popular brands of the year so far – Star Wars: The Force Awakens on DVD and LEGO Star Wars Rey’s Speeder are both in the favourite products of the year to date.

The Official Harry Potter Colouring Book was among the top ten print books on Amazon, while in West London, Minion fancy dress goggles proved to be popular.

In addition, in March, to celebrate the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Amazon looked at who comic fans were backing.

Bruce Wayne’s alter ego reigned supreme, with sales of Batman action figures 66% stronger than sales of Superman action figures on Amazon.co.uk.

Batman’s biggest superhero fans can also be found in Nottingham, with residents buying more action figures than any other city per capita.

Today – Tuesday July 12 – is Amazon Prime Day, with Prime members being able to shop thousands of deals from across nearly every category on Amazon.co.uk. New deals are available as often as every five minutes.
