The FA launches 1966 collection

Limited edition commemorative range marks World Cup win 50 years ago this summer.

The FA has unveiled a limited edition commemorative 1966 collection of official merchandise and memorabilia – marking 50 years of England lifting the Word Cup this summer.

The range includes a coffee table size book, a commemorative shirt and a specially struck Royal Mint coin.

All carry the official logo commissioned by The FA to denote authenticity.

“Rather than issue a wide product range, we felt a bespoke collection of genuine value was the right way forward to mark this milestone,” said Nicky Stanton, who manages The FA’s merchandise programme.

“With all the profits going to the Bobby Moore Fund for bowel cancer research, we also wanted to focus our energies to raise as much as we can.”

The coffee table book (£30) includes a foreword by Sir Geoff Hurst and contains numerous previously unseen photographs, as well as showcasing key items of memorabilia (including the players’ shirts and medals, the match ball and unseen documents from The FA’s own archive at Wembley Stadium).

The FA has commissioned the making of just 1,966 exact replicas of the red shirt worn by the England team that defeated West Germany 4-2. Priced at £80, the shirt features Bobby Moore’s golden signature under the crest and comes in a black and gold presentation box.

Finally, the Royal Mint £5 coin – previously reported on The Source last month – is inspired by the 1966 FIFA World Cup logo. For collectors, three coins have been issued.
