GoldieBlox brand makes in-roads into licensing

Random House signs for a line of children’s books based on world’s first girl engineer character.

GoldieBlox has inked its first licensing agreement as it looks to grow the brand further, signing with Random House for a line of children’s books based on the world’s first girl engineer character.

The Goldie Blox series will debut in early 2017 and will be penned by Stacy McAnulty, a mechanical engineer herself.

The first title, Goldie Blox Rules the School, is an origin story introducing readers to Goldie’s offbeat world and the misadventures that lead to finding her new BFFs. The first two novels are scheduled to hit book shelves in spring and summer 2017.

Debbie Sterling, ceo and founder of GoldieBlox, said: “Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the GoldieBlox brand.

“Working with Random House and Stacy McAnulty will help us engage with more children, inspiring them to understand how they can contribute to building a better world, and discover talents and interests they never knew they had.

“With this series, we are one step closer to our mission of changing the narrative around gender stereotypes. By offering a new medium to share our message, our goal is to encourage children all around the world to find their passion whatever it may be.”

The company’s aim is to transition into a children’s multimedia company, building an ‘iconic, girl-power brand of the future’.

The brand has also continued to invest in digital, gearing up to release its second app this summer. The app, GoldieBlox: Adventures in Coding – The Rocket Cupcake Co., will teach fundamental concepts of coding.
