Miffy is celebrating a major birthday next year – further building on the successes of this year, including a glittering night at the recent Junior Magazine design awards.
The Miffy x Cath Kidston range was declared joint silver winner in the Junior Design Awards in the Best Children’s Fashion Collection category at the event hosted by the kids fashion, decor and shopping publication.
This follows on from the win for the Miffy x Cath Kidston range in The Licensing Awards 2024 in the Best Licensed Giftware, Home Décor, Tableware or Housewares category.
Further to the first launch selling out, the collection is now back in Next stores for autumn/winter, while it was also a highlight of the opening of a new, dedicated Cath Kidston store that took place at Westfield White City.
The returning collection sees the artful merging of illustrative worlds that partner Cath Kidston’s painterly florals with Miffy’s graphic joy, running across bags and accessories, along with pyjamas, dresses, homewares, tableware and womenswear.
Rocket Licensing – which manages UK licensing on behalf of brand owner Mercis – has just signed Blueprint Collections to develop a range of Miffy stationery and gifts, while the Carat Shop, the jewellery and hair accessories specialist, has also joined the licensing programme and will develop a range of Miffy product for launch next year.
A number of other new product launches from existing partners are in progress. These include baby and toddler leggings, socks and tops from Blade & Rose; new babywear from Dennicci; duvet covers and cushions from Dreamtex; phone cases, dressing gowns and pyjamas from Skinnydip; plus a recently launched card range from Woodmansterne.
Activity will ramp up further in 2025 when the classic brand created by Dick Bruna celebrates its 70th anniversary. Expect major promotions and wide media coverage, while more licensing and retail announcements are also in the pipeline for 2025, including at least one big new launch collection in early 2025.
“These awards and new partners underline the strength and awareness of the Miffy brand across multiple demographics and the sheer delight that Miffy brings to so many people,” commented Rob Wijeratna, joint md at Rocket Licensing. “All of these factors will be a major theme of 2025 when licensing, retail and Miffy’s millions of fans worldwide join in the celebrations for the 70th birthday of a character that is more popular and loved than ever. We’re looking forward enormously to supporting this wonderful anniversary.”
