Studiocanal has secured a worldwide agreement with Renaissance Pictures to represent the Evil Dead franchise.
The deal – which excludes Army of Darkness – will see Studiocanal handle the franchise for licensing rights in all categories.
The company has represented Evil Dead 2 for a number of years, now managing a strong licensing programme worldwide including publishing, apparel, collectables, gifting, location-based entertainment and video games.
Creative Licensing Company will continue to work alongside Studiocanal as sole agent.
“We are truly excited to work on one of the strongest and most iconic horror franchises of all time,” commented Valerie Rolandez-Barrios, vp IP licensing and partnerships at Studiocanal. “We are driven to creatively develop the brand further exploring markets and opportunities in a variety of product categories worldwide delivering for fans both old and new.”
The Evil Dead franchise – created by Sam Raimi – centres on Ash Williams as he confronts demonic forces unleashed by the Necronomicon, an ancient and malevolent book. The original 1981 film is renowned for its intense horror, while its sequels, such as Evil Dead II, combine horror, dark humour and action. The series was revived in 2013 with a grittier, more violent reboot, followed by Evil Dead Rise in 2023 which reached $147 million at the box office worldwide including $6.9 million at the UK box office through Studiocanal UK.
A further two movies are planned in the franchise.
