The family of the late painter Thomas Kinkade and Art Brand Studios have reached a settlement regarding the licensing rights for intellectual property owned by the Kinkades.
Art Brand has been the exclusive licensee of the Kinkades’ intellectual property since 2015. Earlier this year, a dispute between the Kinkade family and Art Brand about their licensing contract led to litigation.
Under the settlement, the rights to licence the Kinkades’ intellectual property revert back to the Kinkades. Going forward, the Kinkades will work with MHS Licensing to serve as their agent for licensing of the Kinkades’ intellectual property.
MHS Licensing has represented fine artists since 1995 and has extensive licensing experience. Under a new contract with the Kinkades, Art Brand will continue to manage a limited number of licensing contracts and also continue to manufacture and sell limited edition and open edition artwork.
The Kinkade Family appreciates Art Brand’s efforts to expand the franchise worldwide and looks forward to sharing artwork inspired by Thomas Kinkade with a new generation of families and art appreciators. Art Brand appreciates the Kinkade Family’s partnership and looks forward to further partnering with global brands to create world class art that inspires and captivates art enthusiasts and collectors.
