The Bob Marley family expands licensing portfolio with fragrance deal

One of history’s most iconic musicians, the Bob Marley family is continuing to expand his legacy through consumer products, securing a new multi-year licensing deal with US fragrance company, Michael Malul.

The artist’s legacy lies within his music and messages of love, peace and unity. These pillars have inspired the creation of six debut fragrances – a collection of men’s and women’s fragrances that will be available in 100ml bottles. The love-inspired fragrances will be warm, romantic and intimate; peace will be fresh, herbal and calming; and the unity fragrances will be fruity and bright.

To enhance the emotions that each fragrance aims to evoke, the brands worked with Givaudan and Firmenich to incorporate scientifically-backed mood-enhancing technology that activates different areas of the brain.

The love inspired fragrances will evoke feelings of happiness, the peace fragrances will promote relaxation and the unity fragrances will provide an uplifting experience.

Because of Bob’s Jamaican roots, the perfumers also took inspiration from his homeland including notes indigenous to or sourced from the island. In the collection, customers will find Jamaican notes from mango, pineapple and star apple to basil, hibiscus and cinnamon.

“It’s exciting to share my family’s legacy through fragrance,” commented Cedella Marley, ceo of the Bob Marley group of companies, Grammy-winning singer, author, designer and Marley’s daughter. “We aimed to capture the warmth and joy that remind us of Jamaica, of home. Each scent evokes a unique emotion – from the calm of peace to the brightness of the sun, featuring island notes like mango, basil, hibiscus and cinnamon. It’s a true celebration of our roots, a love letter to our story. I can’t wait to share them with the world.”

Hanan Malul, ceo at Michael Malul, continued: “Bob Marley’s messages of love, peace and unity are all feelings that are easily evoked through scent. Warm musks and spices mimic the passion of falling in love, fresh plants and flowers conjure up feelings of calm and bright fruits invigorate us in the same way as feeding off of the energy of our friends, families and communities.

“The connection between Bob Marley’s legacy and fragrance was clear to our team and we can’t wait to bring it to consumers next year.”

The fragrances will launch in early 2025 on the Michael Malul website, Amazon and in major retailers across the US.
