Maitland & Poate haș collaborated with journalist, author and founder of Mad About The House, Kate Watson-Smyth on a range of new handmade tiles.
The Italian Collection showcases five heritage designs, refreshed and reinvented with a striking new colour palette.
Inspired by the recent renovation of her new Italian home near Turin, Kate commented: “The house needed completely redoing and I wanted to bring the colours of the Italian countryside into the bathrooms. Maitland & Poate use traditional methods to create their tiles and that fitted perfectly with the aesthetic of the building. All the designs are reworking of traditional patterns and one was based on a single tile I saw in a reclamation yard a few miles from the house and fell in love with.”
Each design is named after the rooms in Kate’s home, where the colour choices have been influenced by the ancient property’s original features. From calming lavenders to deep forest greens, muted yellows and deep blues all combine with soft pastel creams for an eclectic design offering.
The Italian Collection comprises handmade cement tiles produced by third generation tile artisans in Maitland & Poates Andalucian workshops. Suited to both interior and exterior projects, a selection of plain tiles in the coordinating colours is also offered and made to order.
The Italian Tile collection sits alongside a complimentary palette of 12 paint colours created by Kate in collaboration with Graphenstone.
