Taylor Swift tops most in demand music merchandise in the UK

A recent study has identified the music artists with the most in-demand merchandise, with woman of the moment, Taylor Swift securing the top position.

The research – carried out by the promotional products company Pens.com – involved an analysis of the online search volumes for Billboard’s Top 100 artists of 2023. The study used 1,218 keywords within Google Keyword Planner and by calculating average monthly figures in the UK since January 2023, unveiled which merchandise fans want to purchase the most.

The data analysis indicated a significant interest in Taylor Swift’s merchandise among the British public, with an average of 41,845 monthly searches. Taylor not only leads globally with 596,195 searches worldwide, surpassing artists like Ed Sheeran by 12 times, but her Eras tour also boasts an estimated nightly gross of £10 million, attracting 72,000 spectators per show.

From scrapbooks to friendship bracelets, Taylor Swift’s merchandise spans a variety of items, with the most sought-after product being ‘Taylor Swift t-shirt’, which accumulates 7,016 monthly searches.

The second most searched merchandise belongs to Harry Styles, who racks up an average monthly search volume of 28,776.

Lana Del Rey (18,087 monthly searches average), The Weeknd (9,915) and Metallica (9,425) round out the top five.

“In a remarkable year that saw Taylor Swift named Time’s Person of the Year, the superstar’s dominance in merchandise demand secures her unparalleled connection with fans,” said a spokesperson for Pens.com. “Marking her multifaceted success, 2023 stands as an extraordinary chapter in Taylor Swift’s ever-growing career. Securing the top spot in the research comes as no surprise, but it’ll be interesting to see if these Google searches translate into Christmas presents this year.”

The UK top 10 is completed by Beyoncé (8,974), Guns N’ Roses (8,147), Fleetwood Mac (8,133), Billie Eilish (7,646) and Eminem (7,506)

Regarding the musicians with the most popular merchandise globally, Taylor Swift again takes the top spot by a landslide, with 596,195 online mentions in 2023. Harry Styles ranks far behind with 161,537 online mentions and Lana Del Rey takes third place, with 157,337. Metallica takes fourth place.
