Wednesday, Queen Charlotte among most watched on Netflix for January to June

Netflix has released its first biannual report covering six months of streaming habits on the platform.

The new report – called What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report – covers over 18,000 titles and almost 100 billion hours viewed between January and June 2023.

It includes hours viewed for every title (both Netflix original and licensed TV shows and movies) watched for more than 50,000 hours during that period; the premiere date for any Netflix original TV series or film; and whether the title was available globally.

When it comes to titles familiar with the licensing community, Wednesday was the top performer – with season one coming in at number four on the list with 507,700,000 hours viewed.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story was close behind at number five with 503,000,000 hours viewed.

Vikings: Valhalla (season two), Emily in Paris (season three), PAW Patrol (seasons five and six), Black Mirror (season six), The Walking Dead (season 11), Bridgerton (seasons one and two), CoComelon (season one) and Stranger Things 4 were also among those included in the report.

Over 60% of Netflix titles released between January and June 2023 appeared in the streamer’s week top 10 lists, with the trends reflected proving similar.

These included the strength of returning favourites (including Queen Charlotte); the popularity of new series such as The Night Agent (which came out on top); the staying power of titles on Netflix, extending well beyond their premieres (such as All Quiet on the Western Front which debuted in October 2022 and generated 80m hours viewed between January-June; and the demand for older, licensed titles.
