The Smurfs ready for 65th anniversary with new content and consumer products

IMPS – the global distributor of The Smurfs CG-animated series – has confirmed that a third season of the hit series is in production.

Season three of The Smurfs will be broadcast globally on Nickelodeon and on local free to air from the beginning of next year.

The latest series will see new characters and elements introduced. Viewers will rediscover the original 100 Smurfs, while they will also meet new Smurfs girls, each with their own specific trait and personality.

There will also be new villains, posing additional threats to the Smurfs – king villain Gargamel will be joined by his niece and nephew, Dwayne and Rowena. There is also a young dragon called Voltaire, plus the Smurfs Girls’ Village, a colourful place which is hidden in the forest and filled with flower bulb-shaped houses.

In addition, IMPS has also confirmed that Giochi Preziosi is the new master toy partner for non-English speaking territories, with a new toy line hitting the European market in 2024. Jazwares is the Smurfs master toy partner for English speaking territories.

A special 65th birthday celebration will be taking place at FACTS, the Belgian Comic Con on 21-22 October, to mark the milestone birthday.

A new Smurfs movie has also been confirmed for February 2025 theatrical release.

“I’m very happy to be able to continue my father’s work with yet another fantastic new season of the Smurfs TV series and the upcoming release of a new toy line for kids to play and create their own stories,” commented Véronique Culliford, president and founder of Peyo Productions and I.M.P.S.

Caroline Duvochel from Ellipse Animation, which is working with IMPS on the new series, continued: “We’re delighted that the creative magic of the Ellipse Animation and Peyo Productions teams will be brought to screens in this brand-new season. The stories of our favorite characters are endless, and we can’t wait for children to discover these new Smurfing adventures.”
