The Grinch is back to steal Christmas in new video game

Outright Games has teamed up with Dr. Seuss Enterprises for a new video game starring The Grinch.

The Grinch: Christmas Adventures will mark the first video game released in 16 years for the brand. It will give fans the chance to experience an all new adventure inspired by the classic children’s book, How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Launching on 13 October on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC, fans can play as The Grinch to steal the Whos’ Christmas.

Accompanied by his faithful dog Max, players will be tasked with completing puzzles to unlock special abilities and gadgets that include snowballs to freeze creatures in your way, a Santa disguise for stealthy sneaking, a lasso candy cane and a jumping jetpack.

The game can be played in up to two-person couch co-op, and also offers accessibility features for the littlest of gamers from ages five and up.

“The Grinch is one of the most enduring and festive brands in entertainment with a 60+ year history,” commented Stephanie Malham, coo at Outright Games. “We appreciate that Dr. Seuss Enterprises understands how video games celebrate a beloved story while modernising a classic work for new audiences. We are grateful to bring this timeless tale to families and to be trusted with creating a new video game for this generation.”

Hernán Castillo, cto at Casual Brothers, added: “With “The Grinch: Christmas Adventures” we were motivated to create an accessible platformer that is fun, and can be played by fans of all ages. We’ve worked closely with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to determine how to remain faithful to the original story, and build the definitive interactive experience in game form, while also creating our own 2023 version of the Grinch, Max and Who-ville.”
