Stephanie Barton to retire from Macmillan Children’s Books

Stephanie Barton is to retire from her role as publisher at Macmillan Children’s Books in April.

Stephanie (pictured) will be leaving children’s publishing after almost 40 years, reported The Bookseller, although she will continue to consult on some key projects and work with authors Rod Campbell and Camilla Reid.

Stephanie – who joined Macmillan Children’s Books 10 years ago – most recently headed up the preschool, brands and classics division, as well as working closely with Rod Campbell on his early learning publishing including Dear Zoo.

She has also worked with Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, instigated a creative relationship with Moomin Characters and negotiated the rights to publish new Winnie the Pooh poetry picture gift books.

“I have been so incredibly privileged to work with the most wonderful people over my career, and how lucky am I to have had a job that has never felt like a job. I have so many people to thank for that,” Stephanie commented. “Some may say this is retiring but I don’t see it like that; I have so much I want to do and I see this next step as a brand new shiny thing and an exciting chapter in my life.”
