HEAD Sport ramping up licensing drive

Sporting goods manufacturer eyeing new categories for HEAD and PENN brands.

Sporting goods manufacturer HEAD is looking to build on its presence in the licensing space.

The company – which is split into five divisions: winter sports, racquet sports, sportswear, diving and licensing – is looking to grow the latter for the HEAD brand, while also expanding its licensing programme for tennis racquet ball maker, PENN.

There are currently 35 HEAD licensees worldwide (including Glove Source (US), High Life (US), Planet Sox (US), Dobotex (Netherlands), Novus Bike (Czech Republic), Itochu(Japan)). In addition, the growing PENN program has five (including High Life (US) and Edmaco(Netherlands)).

Wholesale revenue for both brands stands at around €150 million.

The HEAD brand is currently licensed in sectors such as clothing (including shoes), accessories, bikes, skates, eyewear, balls and fitness equipment.

Recently the company launched a Tri Wear collection, as well as a Fatbike under licence which have been developed in collaboration with HEAD’s top athletes.

Giuseppe Faranna, vp, division manager licensing, at HEAD Sport, told The Source: “The HEAD/PENN licensing programme has already been a great success and we want to continue to grow and build it up further.

“Of course we want to do that by not questioning our core business lines, but strengthen our lifestyle competencies and reaching new target groups for the brand. In total we are having licensees in 22 countries, which shows that the programme is truly global – with strong footprints in the US, Europe, Asia and South America.

“By saying that we are looking for new licensees and partners in all mentioned regions and especially in the area of luggage, shoes (casual/outdoor), toiletries/perfume, stationery, food/drinks/nutrition, consumer electronics, mobile phone accessories as well as interactive/mobile games.”

Giuseppe added: “We will be visiting the relevant shows like Licensing Expo or BLE in order to be available for meetings with potential new licensees, and to have a good overview about the licensing market in general and about new trends. So if you are interested into licensing the HEAD brand we are happy to talk.”
