V&A celebrates spring with raft of new floral collections

The V&A is heading into spring with a clutch of award nominations and some fresh floral products from some of its key partners.

Papier’s latest stationery range (pictured) reimagines a selection of the enchantingly patterned and brightly coloured designs from the museum’s archive. The V&A’s research team and Papier’s designers identified prints which would complement Papier’s spring ‘22 collection Vita, inspired by the folk-bohemian styles of the Bloomsbury Group and the Ballet Russes.

The final selection of geometric and floral patterns is taken from designs by Heussner & Co., acquired by the museum in the 1870s, for furnishings, dress fabrics and patterned papers – the precursor to modern wallpaper, which were also used as book covers and end papers, as well as to line hat boxes.

Meanwhile, People Tree is celebrating its tenth V&A season, inspired by beautiful prints, drawing on the V&A’s renowned national collection of fashion and textiles.

The delicate floral motifs of the Izzy pattern are inspired by a printed cotton from the V&A collection – originally created by Miles & Edwards, which sold fabrics to exclusive clients in the early 19th century from its Oxford Street emporium.

The Margie design is taken from a fragment of block-printed fabrics. This all-over print uplifts a delicate floral trail that was originally produced as a furnishing textile by Miles & Edwards.

Tall Boy has also launched a range of framed prints, which came from an idea designed during the first pandemic lockdown. Full of designs based on the V&A’s celebrated holdings, the collection showcases everything from popular Arts & Crafts textiles, glamorous fashion photography, colourful botanical illustrations and iconic Alice in Wonderland characters.

As well as the new spring launches, the V&A is celebrating a raft of award nominations. The museum has been shortlisted in the Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards 2022 for Best Licensed Heritage or Institution Brand, plus its work with Richard Brendon for Best Brand Licensed Homewares, Kitchen & Tabletop Product or Range; Olympia Le-Tan for Best Brand Licensed Fashion Accessories or Lifestyle Product or Range; and Sofas & Stuff for Best Brand Licensed Home Décor Product or Range.

In addition, it has also been nominated for the Licensed Promotion of the Year award at the International Licensing Awards Asia for its Fila Kids x V&A x Shaun the Sheep: State of the Art collaboration.
