Etailer is apparently enforcing protections on a growing list of brands.
Amazon is apparently getting tough with third party sellers in the US, cracking down on protections on a number of brands.
According to internet reports, the move means that merchants now need to pay from $1,000 for approval to sell items from brands including Nike, Funko and LEGO among others.
In a statement provided to EcommerceBytes, Amazon said: “We want customers to be able to shop with confidence on Amazon. We consider several factors when determining qualifications and criteria to sell certain products. For certain products and categories, Amazon requires additional performance checks, other qualification requirements and fees.”
A report on Brandchannel noted that while the new policy would help with the issue of counterfeits, it could also harm sellers with legitimate business relationships to sell brands on Amazon.
Amazon doesn’t provide a list of categories or products affected – sellers are only able to see what other requirements they need to fulfil as they complete the application process.
